CELEBRATING BIRTHDAY AT LAIYA, BATANGAS

Laiya is one of the places in Batangas where tourism is at its peak. It is not just the best place to go during holidays and summer, but a great one to celebrate a birthday with your friends. Aside from its white sand and luscious landscapes, it’s only a few hour drive from Manila so it's less hassle and preparation compared to others.

There are lots of resorts along Laiya to choose from along the long stretch of shorelines:  from Barangay Laiya-Aplaya to Barangay Hugom, depending on your budget. I’ve been to Laiya before and we stayed at Kabayan Beach Resort. The best one if you have a good budget is the Blue Coral Resort and one of the most popular in the area. In our case, due to budget constraint, we booked at Lucky 7 Beach Resort.

The resorts are usually full packed during weekends especially now since this is the start of summer season. It is best adviced if you will book in advance to secure your reservation. Since our host for this trip (and the birthday celebrant) is a certified Batanguena, we have rented a duplex type rooms to stay at inclusive of cottage along the beach. Rates are Php 3,500.00 if 6 pax and Php 7,000.00 if 12-15 pax for the room accommodations. You can also rent the cottage for Php 2,500.00.

When you reach Laiya, don’t forget to pay Php 20.00 per person for the Tourism Ecological Fee. There are men who will ask you to stop for you to pay the fee. They will also issue tickets/resorts copy which you will surrender on your destination. This fee will help in preserving the beaches of Laiya and this small amount will contribute a lot.

We arrived at almost 8pm so we didn’t have the chance to swim and explore the beach. We just spent the night bonding with each other, waited until midnight to celebrate Rakel’s birthday, played some card games from Tong-its, Pusoy Dos, King’s Cap, Bluff and making stories out of playing cards. And of course we bond with each other all night, until dawn like there’s no tomorrow.

There are lots of beach activities to choose from, especially if you’re into extreme one. You can go for a banana boat riding, speed boat, flyfish, jetski and more to choose from, depending on what your chosen resort offer. We have rented a boat for Php 200.00 per person for the island hopping good for an hour (although there is no island hopping happened, only change of location within the shoreline), but you will explore the area where large corals dominate the beachside. The water is also crystal clear, unpolluted and one of the best in the entire stretch. It is also my first time to see a jelly fish, meaning the ecosystem is still undisturbed.

After photo ops for half an hour, the next activity is the snorkelling. They will provide you with goggles and you can enjoy it if you’re into underwater swimming. Better wear your life vests (which is also provided) if you’re not good at swimming because the area for snorkelling is quite deep the least at 8ft.

It's a jellyish!

We leave the resort at 3:00 pm and I can say we had a weekend blast. It’s not just we have relaxed ourselves from the daily stress and pressures of work, we also had the opportunity to enjoy the company of each other and of course celebrate the birthday of our beloved friend Baby Racquel. Happy Happy Birthday RAKEL! Until next next time folks!
